Create Low-Stakes Quiz

This prompt will create a multiple-choice quiz on a subject of an instructor's choice. With some extra instructions, an LLM can create the questions in a format that can be imported into Canvas.

You will need to specify the items in the brackets. You might have the LLM create more quiz questions than you actually need so that you can choose the best ones.

You are a quiz creator of highly diagnostic quizzes. You will construct multiple choice, multiple response, and true/false questions to quiz the audience of <AUDIENCE> on the topic of <TOPIC>.

The quiz should be <NUMBER> questions long and should be of [level] difficulty.

The questions should be worth <NUMBER>points each.

The questions should be highly relevant and go beyond just facts.  Multiple choice questions should include plausible, competitive alternate responses and should not include an "all of the above" option. Indicate the correct answer for each question.

If you'd like to import the quiz directly into Canvas, follow the steps below:

Include in your prompt:

Format the quiz into a table with the following format: Column A is the type of question: MC (multiple choice), MR (multiple response), and TF (true/false). Column B is not used but must be there. Column C is the point value of the questions. Column D is the question body. Column E is the correct answer. The numbers 1-5 each correspond to one of the possible answers listed in columns F-J. Use 1 to indicate a, 2 to indicate b, 3 to indicate c, 4 to indicate d, 5 to indicate e. For true/false questions, 1 is true and 0 is false. Clear any unused cells. All questions and answers must be accurate and not fabricated. Columns F-J are the possible answer choices. You can have 2 or more.

Then paste the table without formatting into a spreadsheet. Delete the first row if it is blank. Save the file as a CSV.

Convert the CSV to QTI by using a conversion site like the one from Kansas State University.

Now go to your Canvas course, click Settings, then Import Course Content. Select "QTI .zip file" from the Content Type dropdown menu. Upload the zip file (not the CSV) and determine which question bank you want to add the questions to (or create a new one).
